Romney Wins Maine Caucuses

AUGUSTA, ME – Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney has finished first in the Maine caucuses.  He leads Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) with 39% vs. Paul’s 36%.  The results are non-binding as to who will receive Maine’s 24 delegates to the Republican National Convention.

Former senator Rick Santorum and former Speaker Newt Gingrich finished third and fourth respectively.  However, neither candidate devoted campaign resources to the state.

Romney worked hard for a win in the state, which he won in 2008, to provide a bounce to his campaign after losing to Santorum in three Midwestern states (Colorado, Minnesota, and Missouri) earlier this week.
