Talbot Council Restores Funding to Fire Companies, Animal Control and Tourism

EASTON, MD – The Talbot County Council sharpened its pencils this week and found pulled back spending cuts for volunteer fire companies, animal control and the county’s Department of Tourism and Economic Development.  In addition, the council decided not to fund the Board of Education’s “One-to-One laptop program”.

In the original budget the county’s fire companies were slated for a $75,880 in cuts, including an incentive program that provides a stipend of $175 per month to firefighters with 25 years of service and who are over 62 years of age.  The council also restored a $9,000 cut to animal control.  This was due to an error in budget originally submitted.
