WASHINGTON – As the November election looms and President Barack Obama needs solid support from the Hispanic community, the administration has announced that it will cease all deportations of younger illegal immigrants who are not criminals. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano is to announce that deportations will cease for all law-abiding illegal immigrants how entered the country before they were 16 years old. In addition, these illegal immigrants will now be eligible for green cards.
This announcement comes one week before Obama is scheduled to address the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials’ annual conference in Orlando, FL. This action is a partial end-run around the DREAM Act, which has failed to pass Congress.
