ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland Transportation Authority has issued a wind warning for the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge. A wind warning is issued when sustained wind speeds are 30-39 mph. When wind warnings are in effect, operators of house trailers, box trailers, motorcycles, vehicles with roof-mount racks containing cargo or any other vehicle that may be subject to high winds are advised to use caution while traveling across the bridge.
STEVENSVILLE, MD – Firefighters from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department pulled a man from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay after he apparently jumped from the William Preston Lane, Jr. Memorial Bridge (Chesapeake Bay Bridge) Monday morning. Firefighters pulled the 31 year old man out of the waters below the three lane span and immediately took him to Sandy Point. Paramedics transferred the man to a waiting Maryland State Police helicopter where he was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
The Maryland Transportation Authority Police found an abandoned 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck at mile marker 34 of the two lane span. The identity of the man has been withheld.
This is the second person to jump from the bridge in five days. The body of Banie Kruise, 60, of Crownsville, was found on Kent Island Friday.
