The Great Democrat Hope

Attempting to keep the fiasco which is ObamaCare off of the nation’s front pages, Democrat politicos far and wide are focusing on “income inequality” and hiking the federal minimum wage.  There is just one problem … only 1.6 million Americans earn the minimum wage.  Of those, nearly 1/3 are teenagers.

Lewis Wins Senate Seat … Barely

NORFOLK, VA – If an anticipated recount doesn’t change the outcome, Del. Lynwood W. Lewis (D-100) will move to the Virginia Senate this session.  In yesterday’s special election to replace Lt. Governor-elect Ralph Northam, Lewis defeated small businessman and first time candidate Wayne Coleman by 22 votes (0.1%).

Over 20,000 voters from Accomac, Northampton, and Mathews counties, along with a small section of Norfolk, braved the bitter cold to cast their ballots.  In unofficial results Lewis received 10,197 votes and Coleman received 10,175.

I apologize for the lack of posts today.  Today was a Wicomico County Council meeting which had to be covered and I spent last night as one of the individuals volunteering at the Community Emergency Shelter.

MD Personnel Office Criticized in Audit

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland Office of Personnel Services and Benefits (OPSB) stockpiled over $21 million in bank accounts according to an audit released yesterday.  This is nearly 10 times the amount authorized.

The OPSB was also criticized for failing to establish adequate controls for over $34 million in cash receipts during 2010.  The office also failed to protect employee information such as social security numbers and birth dates.

State BOE to Vote on Minimum GPA

ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Maryland state Board of Education is expected to vote today on a minimum required GPA for a student to play sports.  If adopted, the 2.0 minimum GPA would be advisory.  However, it is expected that most counties would adopt the standard if passed by the state board.

The Baltimore Sun appears to be more worried about the affect on sports teams than the focus on academics over sports.

Boeing Lands Record-Breaking Order

NEW YORK – Boeing has received its largest order ever – $18 billion.  The order, from Dubai-based Emirates Airlines is for 50 Boeing 777-300ER Dreamliners.  Emirates also has an option for an additional 20 aircraft, which would bring the total to $26 billion if the option is exercised.
