Coast Guard Rescues Capsized Sailor Off Crisfield

CRISFIELD, MD –  The Coast Guard says one of its Baltimore-based crews rescued a 50-year-old man after his sailboat capsized in Tangier Sound near Crisfield.  The man’s wife contacted the Coast Guard around 8:20 p.m. Saturday and reported that the boat had capsized and that he was sitting atop it.  Coast Guard crew members responded and brought the man onboard their vessel. No one was reported injured.

Beachgoer Lacks Engineering Degree … And Common Sense

REHOBOTH BEACH, DE – It’s not an unusual sight at the beach, children or even adults digging a hole in the sand or building a sand castle.  What happens when you dig two holes and try to connect them with a tunnel?

One beachgoer learned what most of us would already know – it doesn’t take much to collapse a tunnel dug in the sand.  This man’s lack of common sense almost cost him his life.

Three Children Drown in Marshy Hope Creek Near Federalsburg

FEDERALSBURG, MD – Two twelve year old cousins and an eight year old friend drowned Saturday in Marshy Hope Creek near Federalsburg.  The boys were reported missing Saturday afternoon and last seen in the parking lot of the First Church of God.  The first two boys were found Sunday morning behind some homes on Old Denton Road.  The third boys was found by divers Sunday afternoon near where the first two boys were found.

No foul play is suspected.

Drowned Man Found in Wicomico River

SALISBURY, MD – The body of William Alfred Cole Jr., 72, was found floating in the Wicomico River yesterday afternoon near the US 50 bridge.  Salisbury police are continuing to investigate.

Bad Day for Aircraft on Delmarva

Monday was a bad day to be flying on Delmarva.  A U.S. Navy drone, flying from Pautuxent Naval Air Station in St. Mary’s County crashed near Bloodsworth Island.  A single engine plane crashed after landing in Delmar at approximately 1PM.

On Saturday, a small helicopter crashed near Whitehaven Ferry.

Accident Shuts Down I-95

WILMINGTON, DE – An accident Sunday evening shut down the southbound lanes of I-95 for about four hours.  The accident occurred at around 8PM near the Rock Manor section of Wilmington.  DelDOT reported that the road was opened at 12:44 AM.

Gas Leak at Federalsburg Day Care

FEDERALSBURG, MD – The Star Democrat reports that emergency crews have responded to ABC Child Development Center on Laurel Grove Road in Federalsburg for a propane leak.  The staff and children were evacuated while the problem was repaired.

The leak appears to have been caused by a pilot light going out.  There are no reports of injury from the gas.

FRUITLAND, MD – A multi-car accident occurred Wednesday night on Cedar Lane at the south entrance to the Fruitland Wal-Mart.

Fatal Bus Crash in Sussex County

OAK ORCHARD, DE – A crash between an Indian River School District bus and a car resulted in a fatality this morning on Rt. 24 near Oak Orchard.  Delaware State Police confirm that there was one fatality from the car.  Three children on the bus, heading to Long Neck Elementary School, were sent to the hospital for minor injuries.  The Delaware State Police are investigating the accident.

School Bus Burns in Kent County

CHESTERTOWN, MD – Nine school children are in the hospital after a 12 year old student ignited a marine flare on board a bus in Kent County this morning.  The Office of the State Fire Marshal stated that the act “may not have been malicious”.  The Fire Marshal and the Criminal Investigative Division of the Maryland State Police are jointly investigating the incident.

Two students were transported by Kent County EMS, two students were transported by a Queen Anne’s County ambulance, and five students were transported by a Kent County Public Schools bus. The most common complaints were smoke inhalation and "nervousness," according to one emergency medical responder at the scene. A hospital spokesman said the injuries were not life-threatening.

Bouch said seven students were taken to the hospital with minor smoke inhalation; they were treated at Chester River and released.

The bus was transporting students from the Rock Hall area to Kent County Middle School.

EMS Personnel Attacked in Accomack

HALLWOOD, VA – An EMS crew dispatched to a traffic accident on US 13 near Hallwood was attacked by an accident victim early Sunday morning.  Bradley Colas, 23, of Virginia Beach became irritated with EMS workers who attempted to assist him after he ran off the road and struck a tree.  Colas began fighting with the EMS personnel and stabbed two of them.  Colas then pulled out a gun and began shooting.

The EMS personnel managed to subdue Colas, who was taken to Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox.  Colas is being held in custody at the hospital and is under observation.

SALISBURY, MD – An accident at the intersection of US 13 and Main Street in Salisbury is blocking southbound traffic on 13 and both directions on Main Street.

Preston Woman Killed on Route 331

TANYARD, MD – A Preston woman was killed Sunday evening while crossing Route 331 between Dover Bridge and Bethlehem.  Dorothy Ireland Christopher, 79, was crossing Route 331 from Chance’s Country Store to her home when she was struck at around 6:30 PM by a car driven by Kristina Marie Jones, 19, of Preston.

Christopher was pronounced dead Sunday evening at Easton Memorial Hospital.

Crash Claims Life of Centreville Man

CENTREVILLE, MD – Christopher Jones, 32, of Centreville was killed in a single car crash Sunday on Burrisville Road, near Strawberry Field Lane.  Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s deputies found the car, upside down, around 6 AM Sunday.  Jones was pinned under the car and died at the scene.

QUEENSTOWN, MD – A tractor-trailer hauling lumber overturned on US 301 near Queenstown at approximately 7 PM Sunday evening.  The driver is reported to be uninjured.

Fiery Crash … Fuel Tanker Explodes on US 13 in Princess Anne

PRINCESS ANNE, MD – A fuel tanker exploded into flames near the intersection of US 13 and Mt. Vernon Road.  No word yet on injuries.  The accident appears to be the result of a collision with at least one other vehicle.  Photos below courtesy of WBOC.

Pocomoke School Bus Destroyed in Fire

POCOMOKE CITY, MD – A Worcester County school bus was destroyed by fire just after 9PM Wednesday night.  The fire began in the bus’s engine compartment and has been ruled an accident by the Worcester County Fire Marshal.  The bus, owned by Kenneth Rantz, was completely destroyed.
