“MegaNut” Lost Ticket?

BALTIMORE, MD – The woman who claimed to hold one of the three winning tickets in the record-breaking “MegaMillions” lottery is now claiming that she has “lost the ticket”.  Haitian immigrant Mirlande Wilson, deemed “MegaNut” in some media accounts, has provided multiple versions of what occurred to multiple media outlets.

Baby Delivered in Toll Plaza

WILMINGTON, DE – New Castle County paramedics and three Delaware River and Bay Authority police officers delivered a baby at the toll plaza of the Delaware Memorial Bridge Saturday morning.  A 28 year old woman was a passenger in car crossing into Delaware when she went into active labor.  Paramedics were called.  Because her labor progressed so quickly, the child was delivered there.  Both mother and child were transported to Christiana Hospital for evaluation.

US Drone Helps Russian Tanker Deliver Needed Fuel to Frozen Alaska Town

NOME, AK – Last fall a storm prevented Nome from receiving its last pre-winter fuel delivery.  Now a USCG ice breaker and a Russian tanker are crawling across the frozen Bering Sea to deliver fuel too this Alaskan town of 3,500.  As they move toward their goal the two vessels are receiving help from an unusual source – an aerial drone.

Vance Phillips Returns to Council

GEORGETOWN, DE – Sussex County councilman Vance Phillips returned to council today after being injured last October.  Phillips came to today’s meeting in a wheelchair.

Phillips thanked people who have aided in his recovery:

"I can’t begin to thank everyone for their support the last two months; the list would be too long," he said.

Phillips faces another 6 – 8 months of intense physical therapy.

Shari Collins Named 2011 Sussex County “Employee of the Year”

GEORGETOWN, DE – Milford resident Shari Collins has been named the 2011 Sussex County Employee of the Year.  Collins is an administrative clerk in the county’s emergency medical services department.

“I’m so honored by this selection. It’s nice to know how much you’re appreciated by your coworkers,” said Collins. “They are the ones who make it a joy to come to work each day.”

Vance Philliips on Road to Recovery

PHILADELPHIA – Sussex County Councilman Vance Phillips is trying to get home for Christmas.  Phillips, who was seriously injured on October 30th  when his ultra-light aircraft crashed near Lynchburg, VA has been at the Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia since November 11th.

Phillips suffered a spinal compression injury during the “hard landing” of his craft.  After being released from the University of Virginia hospital he has been undergoing intensive therapy at Magee.  Feeling has already returned to his right foot and ankle.

10 Year Old’s “Message in a Bottle” Retrieved in the Azores

BROCKPORT, NY – The message of a 10 year old, upstate New York boy, whose “message in a bottle” was part of a school project, has been retrieved in the Azores.  Curtis Kipple, along with his fellow fourth graders at Brockport’s Fred W. Hill School, had their messages dropped into the Gulf Stream by a North Carolina commercial fisherman.

The message was found by a father and son out fishing off of the islands, which lie off of Portugal.
